Describing the utterly intoxicating and explosive taste of chamoy to someone who’s never tried it is nearly impossible. There are only a few foods on this on this planet that encompass such rich and complex flavors. Our goal is to make the highest quality, best tasting chamoy, using only the highest-quality ingredients.
As mysterious as its flavor, is chamoy’s origin. It is widely believed that the word “chamoy” was introduced to Mexico by a Japanese immigrant named Teikichi Iwadare who began producing japanese ume boshi (pickled prunes) made with apricots, which he called chamoy. It wasn’t long before locals realized that the pickled apricots could be smashed and mixed with a popular candy called Brinquitos, a powder made with dry chilies, sugar, ascorbic acid and natural flavors. The end result managed to hang-on to it’s name and the sweet, savory, spicy sauce that we all love today was born.
Today, Sumo Azteca, strives to bring you the best tasting chamoy flavors for you to enjoy on your favorite fruit, candy, micheladas, or to rim the glass of your favorite (adult) beverage 😉
